Feelin' guilty?

- a bit perhaps. I have neglected my blog big time (and I blame Facebook!!).
Well - it's more likely a mix of things. Having been with Sussi for more than half a year now, I've also had to adjust to having kids in my life - which is pretty darned cool. Sussi has 2 boys age 3 and 5, and they're absolutely fabulous. Fun, curious, and very energetic - though very good at entertaining themselves, when we need a little break. Even though I only see them every other weekend, I think we make good use of the time (they sure see to that, when they wake us up at 6.20 in the morning) engaging in a lot of healthy and fun activities. So that's one thing that takes my focus away from blogging ever so often.

Another is the project I've been working on at Cadesign since the beginning of February. I'm not used to such long projects - usually a long one is about a month or so. But it's been quite an experience, and even though I've worked a bit overtime, I've managed to spread it out a bit and thus avoiding long hours close to the deadline (which was 2 days ago). And luckily we were 5 working on it the last few weeks. I've also gained a lot of new knowledge, and that's probably the thing i like best about Cadesign. So many extremely talented people's brains to pick.

And finally I'm dedicating much more of my free time to music, and it's progressing (on most fronts) - we have about 7 of our own tracks, full crew, and plenty of ideas. But there's still a long way to go. So be patient - we will get there eventually.

- so you see, it's not that I'm lazy (hahahaaa) - but there's just so much other interresting stuff going on. I'll try to do better though (but no promises). I'm still behind with a few photo sessions, and hopefully I'll also be allowed to show some of the works from the big project soon.

Doggies

A few days back, Sussi got her Nikon D60 camera, and yesterday we (well mostly me really) had plenty of opportunity to test it out. During a nice, long day out in the sun, with kids, dogs, and vintage cars, I took these shots of Sussi's mom's dogs at various locations. They have been adjusted slightly in the accompanying RAW format editing software, and finally cropped for better composition. I'm genuinely impressed with the whole experience, athough I haven't even started yet.

- Allingåbro Motor Festival 2009

In may me, Sussi and Mumbles went to Allingåbro for the annual diesel and rubber consumption.
The motor festival is basically a big site converted to a playground for 4X4's, pocket bikes, gocarts, motorcycles in all sizes and shapes, street and drag racers - and last but not least the tractors.
For a relatively "young" event (as I understand it, it only has a few years behind it), it was very well orchestrated, although the viewing facilities could be improved some. At times it felt like the festival was drowning in it's own success, making it a bit hard to actually get to see the action. Luckily I'm one tall mofu ;)

Stupid decissions by stupid people...

Local politicians here in Denmark, have reached the conclusion that a large percentage of the population is in danger of dying prematurely from unhealthy lifestyle. Statistics and predictions say, that in 10 years, every 6th danish resident will be heavily overweight. So they feel compelled to do something. And the solution?
Well - they plan to up the prices on unhealthy groceries, alcohol, cigarettes, junk-food and whatever is a threat to the public health. And that's pretty much their best solution.
Now I'm fairly certain, that studies from other western countries show, that people of lower social status are the ones more likely to catch a unhealthy-living-related illness. They eat unhealthy because manufactured/processed foods are still the cheapest and thus the "better" option for people with a low income. If this is in fact the same situation in Denmark, aren't our local politicians just punishing those people? Why not offer an alternative? I have no problem with raising the prices on certain goods - but as it is now, it just sounds like a poor excuse to drag more money out of the public and in to the state/commune treasure chest. Furthermore - if prices are raised it will once again become attractive to smuggle or to simply go to Germany and eastern europe to get those goods at a much lower price, thus crippling the danish commerce even more than it already is, during the current financial crisis.
I'm shocked (well not really) by the lack of vision and creativity among danish politicians.
Wouldn't it be better to use the raises on unhealthy goods to lower the prices on healthy goods, which ARE quite expensive as it is, and not really an option for many people of lower social status? What about cheaper fitness memberships? 450,- dkkr a month per person is not really an option for many people. How about a bonus of some kind to companies who take out 30 minutes a day to activate employees? Or hire a cook to make proper food for the staff?

- I really hope they come up with something a little more solid, because this is just stupid.

a few Cadesign models

I haven't really posted anything from my work at Cadesign, where I've been for almost a year now.
So here's a few models I did in between projects at work. Can't wait to see them used in a variety of scenes.... Chekov.

Colourfull porcelain stuff - quite pleased with the shader. Looks very bone china'ish.

[Concert] Metal Royale '09 - Napalm Death

Lets get one thing straight: I love Napalm Death. They are without any doubt my all-time favourite metal band. I have every album, except "Suffer the Children", "Harmony Corruption" and "Utopia Banished" (although I'm pretty sure I used to have it, so if you borrowed it from me, please give it back).
There - now that you know how I feel about ND, we can get on with it.

Last night I wen't to part one of the 2009 Metal Royale (a two day, indoor metal festival) here in Aarhus, Denmark (my hometown). Obviously to see ND. There were other bands playing as well, but I was there for ND - so this review is only about Napalm Death.
Now I haven't seen them since they were here shortly after relasing the ground-breaking album" Fear, emptyness, despair", which I also consider a musical turning point for ND. With Fear... they took in a completely new style and sound which went right in with me, and just seemed to get better and better with "Diatribes" and "Inside the torn apart". And the gig promoting Fear... was fantastic. Great sound and great music. And this was more than ten years ago now. Obviously I had HIGH expectations.

But sadly I was royally disappointed. Not by the band, or the fact that they didn't play any of my favourite tracks from Fear..., Diatribes, or Inside... They've been around for almost 30 years now, and have an impressive catalogue of music. In fact, the set was really well composed - fastpaced and energetic, to support the pace of the upcoming album "Time waits for no slave", which is proably the fastest album from ND in a long time. And front man Barney, did a good job of stirring up things with his manic and almost spastic act and gesturing. No the band did absolutely great.
Why was I disappointed then? Well - the sound was fucking excruciating - and I don't mean that in any positive sense. Now I don't know if it was the venue, but I doubt it, because when I saw Soulfly a few years back, it was great. Was it the sound engineers then? Probably. I suspect them of making sound with their earplugs in. And that really doesn't fly at a live show, when the vast majority of the many hundreds of concert goers don't use plugs. I understand that after a day with 6-7 bands you'll have busted your hearing if you don't take care. But last night was just pure rape. I don't think I've ever walked out on a concert before time - untill last night. I just couldn't stand listening to my heroes like that. So I left with a ringing in my ears, that will probably not go away for the first couple of days. I wouldn't mind that, if I had just had a great experience. Unfortunately I didn't. I should probably mention that the Metale Royale seems pretty well organized and set up, so my criticism is purely directed at the sound. I REALLY hope they do better today. I'd hate to see Destruction suffer the same fate as Napalm Death - and I'd REALLY hate walking out on two shows in a row - but I'm bringing my earplugs just in case. At least I'll avoid the ringing again...

On a sidenote, I really miss Jesse Pintado (R.I.P.) in Napalm Death. And I think they should get a 2. guitar player again - at least for the live shows. It just doesn't sound the same with just one.
